The mission of LARRS is to ensure that those who are print impaired have the same access to information as those who can read text.

The Los Angeles Radio Reading Service is a project of Community Partners, a local non–profit corporation. LARRS is coordinated by people who are blind or who have worked in the field.

Every single day of the week LARRS volunteers make a difference.

The station began broadcasting two hours a day in 1995. Now it broadcasts 24 hours a day, seven days a week. LARRS community volunteers read news and feature stories from local newspapers for those who cannot. Other programming, taped in advance or provided by satellite from a supplying network, includes readings from Spanish–language newspapers, the New Yorker magazine, National Geographic, U.S. News and World Report, best–selling books, science fiction and mystery novels.

There’s a show on parenting and the ever–popular “On The Town” program, a weekly roundup of local community and cultural events plus current entertaiment and health news.

LARRS volunteers read every day in a program broadcast via a closed–circuit frequency through KCSN FM Radio (88.5), the public radio station at Cal State Northridge.
